A Twilighter Interview

11 03 2009

Think of one thing that you absolutely adore.

Got it?  Okay.  Now imagine taking that thing you adore and doing something with it – even if it isn’t your own – and making that a launchboard into your future.

That’s what eighteen-year-old Sam is doing.

Samantha, known as the “Twifamily Interviewer” on MySpace, has been gathering information through surveys for quite a while.  She first started the interview process because she wanted to find out what people really thought about the series, but soon became more enthusiastic about the subject.  The project has gone from a simple survey into a gathering of information that Samantha hopes to send to the company producing the Twilight films and a set of questions that she plans to send to the interviewees’ favorite cast members.

At the time I contacted Samantha, she said that she had interviewed 484 people; the tally on her MySpace page goes up nearly every time I see her status updated.”All in all, everyone seems to love Twilight,” she told me through MySpace message.  “They love Stephenie Meyer as an author and want to read more of her work.”

Luckily for Twilight and Meyer fans, the Twilight saga contains four novels – Twilight, New Moon, Eclipse, and Breaking Dawn – and Meyer has also completed a stand-alone novel called The Host, which incorporates similar themes of romance and perseverance.  Fans can also hope for more upcoming stories from the author.

When I asked her how she had learned about the Twilight books, she told me, “I saw the books online way before I knew they were being made into a movie.  When I heard it was being made into a movie, I went to get the books and could not put them down.”  Some of her interviewees had similar stories, and she says that a lot of them have similar answers to the twenty questions that she uses on her interview form.

What, though, draws this high school senior to Twilight?  She says that she loves the romance between Edward and Bella, but “I personally enjoy the books because of how emotional [they] are.”

Of course, the survey isn’t just a game for a bored teenage girl.  “I’m also hoping that doing this interview will help me get in this line of work some day,” she admitted in private correspondence.  As a writer just a little younger than Samantha, that’s something I can understand perfectly well.

Resurrection!

17 12 2008

Today I’m planning on reviving this blog from the land of the dead.

I know that I’ve fallen into bad blogging habits after November’s stunt with NaNoWriMo — which, incidentally, I failed horribly at — but I’m fully prepared to make up for it.

Lots of things are in the works for a revamp of The TECH Project.  I’ll be posting news later in the month regarding the novel, a website that’s being built as we speak, and the novella Dance, Dance, along with other information about different things.

As a side note: I hear that the New Moon film is coming out on November 20th of 2009.  I’ll talk more about my experience watching the Twilight film in the next post!

Twilight Survey

4 10 2008

Usually, I don’t do this sort of thing.  But I saw this survey on my friend’s Xanga, so I thought I’d do it.  I put it below a break because it’s long…. read on if you dare.

On Many Topics

On Battle of the Labyrinth:  Oh, Mr. Riordan, how I adore this series of yours!  I do wish that Vera had half the personality that Percy does.  Although Percy does seem a bit more confused and unlucky than my own dear girl.

The Battle of the Labyrinth, a Percy Jackson and the Olympians novel, is probably one of the best so far, even if I didn’t like Calypso’s role in the story.  (I am a straightforward girl – I’m not as dumb as Percy, so I understood the same thing that Rachel did.)  It was excellent, and the final twist made me almost gasp in surprise.

(I would have, were it up to me.  But I didn’t want to ruin anything for my younger brother, who still hasn’t read the story yet.)

If you like middle-grade fantasy, or are interested in Greek Mythology, I definitely recommend that you get the Percy Jackson series from your nearest bookstore or library.

On Artemis Fowl: The Time Paradox:  NO!  NO!  Why are you doing this to me?  Why must you torture my soul so?

Gah.  First Mike and Bryan, now this!  NO NO NO NO NO!

Please excute me for a quick tantrum.

Okay.

Now, I wasn’t much pleased that Minerva Paradizo didn’t make an appearance in The Time Paradox.  If you know much about me and my particular fain-shipping, you’ll understand about my tantrum.  Anyway, I just wasn’t pleased about that one part.

However, Artemis’ twin brothers, Beckett and Myles, are the most adorable little children ever.   I especially love Myles – “Simple-toon” – and hope that Eoin Colfer does another Artemis Fowl book so that there’s more of Myles.  He was just a hilarious character.

This novel was a bit off, though – Holly didn’t seem right.  I really think there was something weird about her character this time!

Artemis himself was in top character-development form, though.  I hope he learns his lesson after that stunt he pulled!

On BREAKING DAWN: Damn you, Wal-Mart.  I can’t exactly buy two books in two days after I’ve already been banned from buying new books.

Ah, well.  I’m 67th on the request list at the local library.

And I like The Host better, anyways.
