Book Binding

16 06 2008

Some people are really into DIY.  Seriously.  They really are.

There are tons of web sites out there devoted to DIY.  Some of them are about book-binding.

While conducting research, I discovered one web site that sells the machines that make hard covers.  It’s called Fastbind.  At www.fastbind.com, an interested company (or private citizien, I assume) can find all sorts of products to help them bind their own books.

If you just want to make some paperbacks by hand, whether for fun or profit, I’d suggest checking out DIYBookbinding.com or No-Media-Kings.  Both sites offer tutorials on binding paperbacks.

If you’re more into the whole classic-bookbinder image of ancient leather tomes, try this site instead.  It shows you where to find free book-binding resources, as well as giving background and history on bookbinding.

(Just a short article today, dears.)

Well, Then… More Query Letters

26 05 2008

As you can probably see from the blog post, I’m sending query letters today.  (Technically, four of them are going tomorrow, but I’m going through all the trouble to print them TODAY.)  It’s a record this time: a grand total of seven query letters.

For those of you who are keeping up… I still haven’t heard from that last agent.  I figured that I was sick of waiting on her.  Who knows – maybe she’s one of those agents that doesn’t reply unless interested.

Anyway, I’m pretty thrilled.  Some of the agents might be a really good fit for my book.  And the thrill of sending novel queries still hasn’t worn off yet!  I’m pretty happy and excited about it.

I probably won’t be excited when I get seven rejections back, but that’s okay.

What I’ve Done

22 01 2008

Linkin Park has hit my list of music today.

I mean, I’ve enjoyed their music before, but I was watching Transformers today, and the song right before the ending credits is “What I’ve Done,” which is a song I really love.

What does all this have to do with The TECH Project? Well, let me show you the line of events leading to this conclusion.

  1. I was at my boyfriend’s house today, watching Transformers.
  2. My boyfriend is one of the people that a minor character is based on in The TECH Project.

CWIM

I have discovered the greatest resource in children’s and young adult writers’ known market: the Children’s Writer’s & Illustrator’s Market, published by Writer’s Digest Books.

The books is full of all sorts of helpful things, including a listing of agents, tips on writing query letters, a magazine submission section, and even a comprehensive listing of publishers. I bought it at Barnes & Noble for less than $30, which isn’t too bad.

How did I happen upon this, you might ask?
